A 17-year-old has been charged and two people are still being sought after a shooting in Posen Thursday that led to an overnight search focused in Tinley Park.

Tinley Park police concluded an active search Friday morning after an officer spotted a suspected vehicle and pursued it north on Ridgeland Avenue until it crashed into the railroad tracks at Ridgeland and Oak Forest avenues, where the occupants fled in different directions, police said.

A 17-year-old was arrested, said Wally Quintanilla, Posen’s deputy police chief. The other two people, who police believe are in their late teens or early 20s, were still being sought Friday morning. Quintanilla said the boy was not injured when he was taken into custody.

The Cook County state’s attorney’s office said the teen was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. He appeared for a hearing in juvenile court Friday where a judge said there was probable cause and ordered he be held in custody, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

The arrest followed a massive search that began about 10 p.m. Thursday for a white Chrysler 300 being pursued by Illinois State Police and Posen police, Quintanilla said. The occupants of the Chrysler were wanted for shooting into a “specific residence” in Posen, though no one in the shooting was injured, Quintanilla said.

The Tinley Park Police Department initially said the vehicle and its occupants were wanted in connection with the Posen shooting and a double homicide in Hammond, Indiana.

Tinley Park police took at least two people into custody Friday morning after stopping a black SUV near 187th Street and Harlem Avenue. No information has been released about those arrests, with Tinley Park police referring questions to Posen police, who referred questions to the state’s attorney’s office.

There was a double homicide Oct. 7 in Hammond, when police there responded to the 700 block of Locust Street around 3:30 a.m. and found a man slumped in a vehicle with a bullet wound in his head and a second man lying in a yard nearby with several gunshot wounds to his abdomen and chest area.

The Lake County coroner’s office identified the men as Diandre Easter, 27, of Calumet City; and Daniel Gomez, 26, of the 3900 block of Ivy Street in East Chicago, Indiana.

Hammond police said Friday they were not involved in the south suburban search Thursday night and Friday morning, and would not comment if it was connected to the deaths there.

Tinley Park police Chief Matthew Walsh said there were practically 70 offices involved in the search. He said Friday that while the search was no longer active in Tinley Park based on a belief suspects had left the area, police officers were sent to the three schools and other high-traffic places as a precaution.

State police helped set up a parameter overnight and Tinley Park police notified area residents of possible danger and to report any suspicious people in the area, police said. Police said the search concluded around 4:30 a.m. Friday.

The South Suburban Emergency Response Team and the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System Mutual Aid Response Team assisted, as did the Cook County sheriffs police hostage barricade unit. Sheriff’s K-9 bloodhounds were also used in an attempt to find the men.
