The mayor of Kansas City, Mo., filed a complaint Friday with the city police department against a police officer who made an unauthorized search on him in a state criminal justice records database, according to multiple local news sites.

Mayor Quinton Lucas said he was notified in September by the office of the prosecuting attorney that an officer searched his name in the database, which contains information on criminal history and other sensitive documents, according to Fox 4 News In Kansas City.
In the complaint obtained by news site KSHB-TV, Lucas said he was “unaware” of any disciplinary action taken by the Kansas City police, who had discovered the unauthorized search in May, and said the search was made in “violation of department rules and regulations.”

The Kansas City Police Department told Fox 4 News that the search violated KCPD policy barring personal searches in the database. The police department launched an investigation after getting a report from another officer about the incident, and handed over investigation documents to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Earlier this year three police officers in Williamstown, Mass., were disciplined for searching in a criminal justice database for records of critics of the police department, according to The Berkshire Eagle. The officers searched for information such as motor vehicle registration for as many as 20 people.
