Washoe County’s next school superintendent will be selected in part by a local hiring firm. The school Board of Trustees today unanimously voted for The Bryan Group of Incline Village to begin the search.
The company will have names put forward to the trustees to replace outgoing Superintendent Kristen McNeill, who will retire at the end of the fiscal year, by July 1.
Caty Delone, the school district’s human resources manager, said the search process will cost up to $60,000, which, she added, is about half of what a similar search would cost.
The firm touted its local ties and experience as educators and consultants.
“Research shows that a superintendent needs to be in the position 5-7 years if the district is expecting someone who can create a high-performing district, introduce and sustain major best practices, and can deal effectively with significant crises/trauma, e.g., COVID,” the Bryan Group’s representatives noted as part of their application to the trustees.
The company formed in 2019 but representatives said they had extensive experience in their backgrounds to search for a new superintendent.
“TBG has extensive expertise in gathering stakeholder input for a variety of purposes,” they said. “We use Guided Storytelling Interviews to get at the heart of what stakeholders are thinking and feeling, and where feasible, we are also able to include students in the data gathering process.”
They also said students should be part of the hiring process. The company said it will conduct interviews and do extensive background checks on job candidates.
Bob Conrad is publisher, editor, and co-founder of This Is Reno.
