It’s nearly time to jump back in. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is now only hours away from release, and it seems like it’s going to be one the most interesting iterations in years. This is a reboot of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, promising a difficult and unpleasant depiction of the global war on terror in 2019. It’s a tough challenge, and we’ll see if the final product is up to the lofty expectations that the developer has set: now it’s time to see if the final product delivers. So the question then becomes: when can you play? It’s actually a bit complicated, and it depends on where you’re playing and whether you’re playing on PC, Xbox One or PS4. Let’s get into it.
We’ll start with PC, even though Call of Duty is primarily a console franchise. That’s because PC is doing a coordinated global launch at 9:00 PM United States Eastern time. You can see what that means for you below, but note that this only applies to PC:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
On console it’s more complicated, but only mildly so. It depends on your region, so we’ll start with North America, this being a North American publication. North America will follow the PC launch, so everyone will be able to play at 9:00 PM Eastern time. This means that people in North America will be able to play at an earlier clock time than others.
Elsewhere around the world, it’s 12:00 AM midnight on October 25. Activision advises global players to consult their dashboards for launch times, but I haven’t heard of any region besides North America that’s deviating from 12:00 AM midnight local time. That means we’ll still be abiding by the tradition of watching streamers in Australia and New Zealand jumping in as the sun makes its trip across the world.
By tomorrow, everyone will be playing. I’m exciting about this one, even if I’m cautious. An E3 demo didn’t really have me excited for the campaign mode: the graphics are incredible, but that’s a double-edged sword in a franchise known for such graphic violence. I’m more excited about multiplayer, which eschews the lofty moral ambitions of the campaign in favor of, you know, multiplayer.
