Oh no! This one certainly won't get people riled up. There's a rumor that the New York Islanders could be returning a controversial logo for the reverse retro jerseys when they make their return for the 2022-2023 season.
Next year, the NHL will return with the reverse retro concept they did last season, and Post2Post, who covers the NHL on YouTube is claiming that they will use the fisherman logo for it.

That scream you heard off in the distance was every Islanders fan over the age of 40 years old thinking of that possibility. Yes, the Islanders ditching the original logo and color scheme was a bad idea, nobody is denying it, but as an alternate jersey that is worn a handful of times a season for nostalgia reasons, why not?
To be clear, while I personally don't hate the idea, I would be floored if the Islanders actually did it. I don't buy the rumor for a second.
Last year, the Islanders literally just took the home jerseys and made them a little bit darker. You think Lou Lamoriello cares about making a fun reverse retro jersey? I highly doubt it.

If anything, I would anticipate maybe an orange jersey. Perhaps they can do an updated version of the orange ones they had in the early 2000s or kind of just do a swap where orange is the primary color with white and blue accents.
Regardless, Lamoriello doing anything to rock the boat seems totally unlikely. While there would be a portion of the fanbase that loves the idea of bringing it back for 90s nostalgia, there would be an uproar as well from the side that will cite how embarrassing it was for the Islanders during those days.
Expect a super boring, plain looking jersey when these are officially released.
