Recovery mission underway for 2 ice fishermen believed drowned in N.J. reservoir - NJ.com

A recovery operation is underway for two New Jersey ice fishermen who are believed to have drowned at Split Rock Reservoir in Kinnelon, authorities said Sunday morning.

The two men -- a 76-year-old from Passaic and a 64-year-old from Clifton -- traveled to Kinnelon Friday to go ice fishing at Split Rock Reservoir and were reported missing Saturday by family members.

Kinnelon police responded Saturday and met family members at the reservoir where the two males were believed to have last been seen. Their personal belongings were observed on the shoreline and two holes were observed in the ice approximately 100 yards from shore, authorities said.

One male was recovered deceased by ice rescue teams Saturday, but the second male was not recovered as the search was discontinued due to weather and darkness. Diving teams resumed the search for the second ice fisherman Sunday morning.

The names of the victims have not been released by authorities.
