Search and rescue operation for 66-year-old hiker is suspended - KKCO-TV

FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO)- The search for missing hiker, Jim Fuchs, has been suspended on Saturday, June 27. A deceased male was retrieved that match Fuchs description. The identification of the victim and cause of death will be established by Mesa County Coroner’s office.

The victim was discovered early Saturday in rough terrain beyond the Devil’s Kitchen rock formation in Colorado National Monument.

Search teams began the night of Thursday, June 25 and resumed Friday morning after a friend notified Monument staff around 7:00 p.m. that Fuchs had not been seen. Crew and volunteers used drone equipment and thermal imaging and cameras to search the area.

Fuchs' vehicle was found at the Lower Serpents Trail parking lot, just inside the east entrance of the monument.

Searchers from the National Park Service, Mesa County Sheriff's Office and Mesa County Search and Rescue Ground Team are involved in the search.
