Three fishermen were rescued Monday after their boat capsized off Tomales Bay, Coast Guard officials reported.

The boat began taking on water before capsizing about a half-mile off the coast, the Coast Guard said in a news release.

At about 9:30 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers alerted the Coast Guard in San Francisco that three people were sitting on the hull of the capsized fishing boat, according to the release.

A rescue boat dispatched from the Coast Guard’s Bodega Bay station arrived at 10 a.m. and retrieved the three fishermen, who were uninjured, the release said.

The rescue boat returned to the station, met by emergency medical personnel who treated the three unidentified men for hypothermia symptoms.

“Thankfully, this case had a successful outcome,” said Lt. Cmdr. Megan Dennelly, Sector San Francisco Search and rescue mission coordinator, in the release. She said a GPS verification tool called Rapid SOS helped get rescuers to the capsized boat quickly.

“This capability expedited the Coast Guard’s response and helped save the fishermen's lives,” she said.
