Before the New York Islanders got around to announcing signings this week, the news void was filled in part by reports that the infamous Fisherman logo was making a ceremonious (or not so ceremonious) return to the NHL next season as part of the team's 2022-23 Reverse Retro jersey.
But just because the Islanders announced three RFA signings and the organization added four depth players doesn't mean the fisherman news will stop!
Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.net made the potential discovery of a recolored fisherman logo while browsing the new merchandise section on Fanatics Tuesday afternoon. What he found appeared to be the first official glimpse of the all-new 2022-23 NHL Reverse Retro designs. According to Creamer, after finding the page and posting his story, around 20 additional designs went up on the NHLShop only to later be pulled.
"I’m not 100% positive this is part of the new NHL Reverse Retro line for 2022-23, but Fanatics is currently using that same “Special Edition” tag for all of their leftover Reverse Retro stock from the 2020-21 season. So… that’s gotta mean something, right?"

While Creamer tweeted a photo capturing many shirts and logos, it's hard to make out the Islanders' one, and zooming in only marginally helps. But luckily for us, #IslesTwitter came through with a sharp screenshot.

Earlier this month, Icethetics confirmed the return of the Fisherman logo but with a twist that "the jersey will use current team colors only. Blue and Orange. No teal."
In the leaked photo, the fisherman's attire is no longer in teal but in orange. The goal netting is blue, and the logo has a white outline against the dark navy shirt, the expected color of the reverse retro sweater, the same that they wore during the 2021 season. There also appears to be a hint of teal in the waves but will need some closer inspection to confirm.
After first popping up when the Islanders played in Brooklyn, the fisherman logo is now prominently on display at the Islanders team store, Isles Lab. On the website, many of the new arrivals feature the polarizing 1995 logo.
