A stretch of the Battenkill River in the town of Jackson
Times Union file photoJACKSON - Police are looking into the possibility that a man whose body was found in the Battenkill River Thursday evening had a medical episode while fishing. Washington County sheriff's deputies identified the man as James J. Berry, 73, of Delmar.
According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, deputies responded to the intersection of Route 313 and Hickory Hill Road for a report of a person in the river sometime before 6 p.m.
The person later identified as Berry and was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, the incident does not appear to be suspicious, the sheriff said.
Shushan firefighters, the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad and State police assisted.
