Two fishermen from Vieux-Fort have been reported missing at sea since Saturday, February 18.
Missing are Pius 'Norppy' Mathurin, the captain of the fishing vessel, and Deleson Jn Marie.
The men left the Vieux-Fort fishing port to fish and have not been seen or heard of since.
Family members of both fishermen say that despite their concerns regarding the situation, they feel that their loved ones are still alive and waiting to be rescued.
Zoya Jn Marie, the sister of Deleson Jn Marie said: “We are hoping and praying he is safe and makes it back home.”
She said her brother normally goes out to sea with his father, who recently passed away, and that both incidents are taking a toll on the family.
“We feel a lot of pain but we are coping,” she lamented.
According to the girlfriend of Mathurin, Melissa James, the family is struggling to come to terms with the situation.

She said it is not the first time her boyfriend has been missing at sea, and that he has previously been lucky to return safely.
Boat owner Gregory Joseph told Loop News the situation is of grave concern to him.
“It is very sad news and I hope they are safe,” Joseph said.
He said he is not sure what went wrong, but was told that the boat had hit a wall in the sea near shore and the captain went out to sea without checking it with a mechanic.
According to Joseph, if that’s the case, the captain should have berthed the boat.
He said the men left shore with food, water, and were equipped with a GPS, but he is not sure, whether they had enough food to last them for the time they have been missing.
