Emergency crews are searching for a missing ranger at Horsetooth Reservoir late Thursday night.
About 9 p.m. Thursday, Poudre Fire Authority responded to a water emergency on the northeast side of the reservoir, according to the PulsePoint app. In a series of tweets, PFA said one person — later identified as a ranger — was unaccounted for and a search was underway.
A search by PFA, Larimer County Sheriff's Office and Larimer County rangers initially focused on the area near the Rotary Park parking lot on the east shore of the reservoir, PFA said.
Just after 11 p.m., the agency tweeted that crews were conducting "primary and secondary searches of both water and the east and west shorelines." PFA spokesperson Annie Bierbower said the search for the ranger did start on land and then moved into the reservoir.
Three drones participating in the search were grounded to make way for a Denver Police Department helicopter, which will provide additional light for the search, according to a 11:24 p.m. tweet.
Crews were also on boats searching the reservoir with spotlights about 11:30 p.m.
Laramie Search and Rescue is also assisting with the water search, but had stayed in boats and had not yet entered the water as of midnight, Bierbower said.
As of 1:15 a.m., PFA remained on scene to assist in the continued search for the missing ranger, and some units were released, according to a tweet. PFA is also using department's drone with infrared technology to help in the search.
Search crews continue to search both water and land, according to a tweet from PFA.
