If you're the type of internet user who's perpetually drowning in dozens of Google Chrome tabs, help is on the way.
According to Bleeping Computer, Google is currently testing a new "Tab Search" feature across Chrome Canary builds. When enabled, it would allow users to type in search terms to track down a particular tab.
For anyone who routinely opens upward of 20 or so websites at a time and leaves them to languish, this feature could be a lifesaver. It can be frustrating to mouse over dozens of truncated tabs for a refresh of what they contain.
Right now, Tab Search testing is limited to Chrome 89 and isn't set to debut for all Chrome users until March 2021. But it is enabled right now for anyone using Chrome Canary, which can be downloaded for free but is mostly used by developers or tech-savvy tinkerers. According to Bleeping Computer, users will need to do the following to try the feature out ahead of its stable release:
1. Go to the Chrome://flags menu.
2. Find "Enable Tab Search" and toggle the feature on.
3. Relaunch the browser and follow the prompts. Once complete, Tab Search should be available.
For those content to wait, Chrome already offers a suite of options to help wrangle tabs, from pinning specific tabs to continuing where you left off.
