San Bernardino Police Department detectives are looking for whoever shot a man to death in broad daylight in the middle of a neighborhood on Saturday.

The sound of gunfire brought officers to the 1300 block of W. 11th Street at around 2:17 p.m. on Saturday, police said Sunday in a statement. When they arrived, they found 24-year-old John Daniel Resendez of San Bernardino dying from a gunshot wound.

The officers summoned paramedics, who took Resendez to a hospital, where he died.

Police haven’t said how many shots were fired, but they found several casings in the street near where Resendez was lying on the ground. Resendez was hit once.

“I believe he had only one injury, and that took his life,” said Sgt. John Echevarria, a San Bernardino police spokesman.

It wasn’t clear whether detectives have found any witnesses to the shooting yet.

Police haven’t been able to describe a suspect. They also don’t know whether the suspect in the shooting left the area on foot or in a vehicle.

Police asked for anyone with information about the shooting to call them at (909) 384-5665 or (909) 384-5659.
