TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Second Harvest of the Big Bend received a fresh catch Wednesday morning, straight from the Gulf of Mexico.
The Gulf of Mexico Reef Fish Shareholders’ Alliance and “Fish for America teamed up to catch and donate snapper and grouper to the local food bank.
Over the course of months, the groups will donate 13,000 pounds of red snapper.
The project is not just benefiting those in need, but also fishermen and women who are struggling during the pandemic.
“We’re donating red snapper and grouper today, which is the result of a win, win solution to fisherman working and the needy having some very healthy protein,” President of Fish for America USA, Jim Zurbrick, said.
Wednesday, Second Harvest told WCTV that the $20,000 worth of snapper and grouper was donated to their facility.
