A 23-year-old man who had been reported missing was found dead near the shoreline of the lake in the city of Canyon Lake, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies responding to the area of Vacation Drive about 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, were told by family members that the man liked to fish in the area and could not be located, Sgt. Albert Martinez said.
“Deputies began checking the shoreline and located the male, deceased in the water, next to the shoreline,” Martinez said.
The cause of the death had not been determined, Martinez said, but no crime was immediately apparent.
