LAPS News:

The Los Alamos School Board has narrowed the search for the next Los Alamos Public Schools superintendent to three candidates, each with demonstrated teaching and leadership experience.

The candidates and their families will travel to Los Alamos Jan. 12-14 for a formal interview with School Board members as well as in-person meetings with staff and community stakeholders.

“This is an important next step in the process,” Interim Superintendent Jennifer Guy said. “The School Board met last weekend with the search company, McPherson and Jacobson, to review the pool of candidates and select the finalists to interview. We are pleased to be moving forward with strong candidates.”

LAPS is proud to introduce the candidates:

Keith Bausman serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for the Hazelwood School District in St. Louis, Missouri. His 22-year career in education includes stints as a teacher, high school principal, director of human resources and assistant superintendent. As a classroom teacher, he maintained a focus on building positive, student-centered organizations where all stakeholders are valued in order to promote high achievement for all students. He has also led numerous leadership, curriculum development, and school culture initiatives.

He has advanced teaching and learning in schools and districts in part through his role on the New Mexico Mathematics and Science Advisory Council. He is participating in a diversity, equity, and inclusion committee initiative to help identify and implement strategies that support the needs of all educators, students and families.

A native of the Southwest, Bausman completed both a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in secondary curriculum and instruction at Arizona State University before completing his second master’s degree and administrative credentials at Lubbock Christian University. He enjoys spending his free time with his children and traveling to new destinations.

Brett Bunch is the Superintendent of the Newport School District in Arkansas. He taught Advanced Placement US History and economics, served as a high school principal and has spent the last eight years as superintendent. Prior to becoming an educator, he worked as a television news anchor and as a business executive. He is an innovator in education, from on-site medical, dental, vision and mental health services for students and staff, to starting the only Conservation Academy in the country. He was recognized as the Administrator of the Year for his work with mental and physical health for his students by the state of Arkansas.

Bunch holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and marketing from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. He also has a master’s in Educational Leadership and a Specialist degree in Education from Arkansas State University, and is working on his Doctorate in Educational Administration. He is married and has two grown children.

Dr. Jose Delfin serves as the Associate Superintendent for the Carson City School District in Nevada where he leads the Human Resources, Risk Management, and Transportation departments, and has supervised principals and support staff. He also is the lead negotiator and has fostered solid professional relationships and trust with union leaders. Prior to school administration, he taught art, computer graphics and web design.

Dr. Delfin earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, his master’s degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and his Educational Doctorate in educational leadership also from UNLV. In his free time, he enjoys tinkering with cars, photography, keeping fit and spending time with his two adult children.

The School Board hopes to select the next superintendent for Los Alamos Public Schools early this winter.
