MARION (WSIL) -- The search for a missing man continues, this time in a wooded area known as the Marion Star Bond District.

The Southern Illinois Search Team organized the event on Wednesday in an effort to locate Russell Bozarth.

Members of the group told volunteers who came to help that every time they look and each item discovered will bring them one step closer to finding him.

"If you find something, whether it be clothing, shoes, something with an interest, drop a flag," Search party organizers call out to a small group, gathered for a full day of cold rain to search a muddy hillside for Bozarth. "Let your team leader know, your operator know, we'll get it taken care of."

Police say Bozarth was last seen December 7th, after leaving his girlfriend's home in the 1000 block of South Vicksburg Street.

His sister, Billie Jo McClung, says his disappearance is out of the ordinary. She took part in Wednesday's search, helping to provide identification of any articles found.

"He doesn't just disappear for weeks at a time," explains McClung who just wants answers.

She believes there are those with information that could lead to his location and ask that they come forward with what they know.

"We've got plenty of messages saying that he's there and there, somebody knows something; everybody in Marion knows my brother," says McClung.

David Jennings, head coordinator for the Southern Illinois Search Team, says it could take several different searches, but they plan to continue until he is found.

"We're just a bunch of volunteers," Jennings says, adding that they are not an agency of any type. "Just people trying to help family get closure."

Bozarth's sister says the woods searched Wednesday is an area that she and her brother grew up playing around, "It's our stomping ground."

She says while her brother is considered "homeless," he is a life-long resident of Marion and would not leave his family without explanation.

"He has problems," she says, "but he is the most loving person, he would never hurt anybody and he would go out of his way to help anybody."

McClung says they are hopeful for any information or discovery that leads to finding her brother. The search party Wednesday discovered several "camp" sites, but no evidence points to those items belonging to Bozarth.

Anyone who has information are being asked to call the Marion Police Department at 618-993-2124.

Tipsters can also call the Missing Persons Awareness Network at 312-620-0788.
