A 24-year-old Kula man was found dead in the ocean off Waianapanapa State Park on Saturday after he didn’t return from fishing the day before, police said.
The man was reported missing at 11:51 p.m. Friday. His vehicle was found near the parking lot at the park.
Hana firefighters and police searched the park area for the man at 1:51 a.m. Saturday, police said. Search efforts continued at 6 a.m. Saturday, with rescue firefighters aboard the Fire Department’s Air One helicopter, the Coast Guard and the man’s family joining.
The man’s body was located about 50 yards offshore from the park at 4:36 p.m., police said.
