Search suspended for fisherman who disappeared in waters after boat overturned near Galveston jetties - KPRC Click2Houston

GALVESTON – The search for a fisherman who went missing Thursday after a 12-foot Johnboat overturned near the Galveston jetties on the east end of the Galveston Island has been suspended, according to U.S. Coast Guards.

A pilot boat crew reported an overturned boat with three men in the water. The three individuals were reportedly in the water together for an extensive amount of time before a wave separated them. The crew was able to rescue two of the fishermen but the third could not be found.

The fisherman was identified as 22-year-old Sergy Estrada.

Coast Guard crews searched approximately 227 square miles for over 40 hours combined.

“It is never easy making the decision to suspend a search and rescue case, and it’s only made after careful consideration of many resources and factors,” said Capt. Keith Donohue, search and rescue mission coordinator, Sector Houston-Galveston. “After spending time with Sergy’s family over the past couple of days, I know how profoundly they miss their loved one, and I wish them the best during this difficult time.”
