Local fisherman rescues undocumented people along the river - KGNS

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Aurelio Aguilar regularly goes down to the Three Laredo Parks to fish. On the afternoon of March 24, he told our cameras he was fishing when he saw a woman and man drowning in the river. He said he reeled them in and Border Patrol arrived to assess the situation.

Aguilar says he first noticed the woman in distress and jumped into action. “I saw her. She look distressed. I didn’t bother telling her anything. You know a situation like that is already difficult. I was just hoping that Border Patrol didn’t think I was involved or waiting for them. I just came here to fish. I don’t work anymore and I get bored doing nothing at home.”

KGNS reached out to Border Patrol for more information about the incident but have yet to receive a response.
