The body of a fisherman missing for weeks in Newport was discovered in the waters off the coastal town Wednesday, officials said.
Norman Grant, a crew member of the fishing boat F/V Prolifik, was reported missing Feb. 9. He was last seen the night before near the vessel, which was moored at Hallmark Fisheries dock.
Video surveillance and phone records confirmed Grant’s last known location was on Bay Boulevard near the F/V Prolifik.
Investigators began a search and called in a dive team from Lane County but found no evidence of the missing man.
On Wednesday, another fishing vessel reported hitting something beneath the water near where the F/V Prolifik had been moored. After a local diver found clothing tangled in the boat’s propeller, a further search of the area was initiated. Grant’s body was found about 80 feet south of the dock.
No other details were immediately available.
