A fisherman thanked everyone who helped rescue him after falling through ice into Boylston’s Rocky Pond on Monday afternoon.
“Their heroism was truly remarkable and really shows what true character and selflessness really is all about,” he wrote in a message that was shared on Twitter. “These three individuals risked everything they have to try and save me. To try and thank them enough would be impossible.”

Fire officials said workers pulled four people from the pond — the fisherman, and three others who attempted to rescue him before falling through the ice themselves.
One was a resident living on the pond, while the other two were construction workers.
After the Shrewsbury Fire Department used a hovercraft to pull everyone from the water, one person was sent to a local hospital for hypothermia and the other three were treated on scene, officials said.
“All the fire, police, ambulance people that were there are truly unbelievable at their jobs,” the fisherman said. “They should be commended and recognized for their bravery. Because without them and all the first responders I would not be alive.”
