KALAMAZOO, MI -- Rescuers responded to Twin Lakes in Alamo Township after a fisherman fell through ice.
Alamo Township firefighters reported they used a boat to rescue the person about 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan 25.
Kalamazoo County sheriff’s deputies said several people were fishing on Twin Lakes, along Ravine Road near West F Avenue, about 1:35 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 when a 42-year-old Kalamazoo man fell through the ice.
The man was able to keep his head above water and, at one point, managed to get back onto the ice. But deputies said the ice was too weak to hold him and he fell back into the water.
Firefighters said four other people also were on the ice but did not fall through.
Firefighters used a rescue boat to reach the man in the water. After he was brought to shore, he walked on his own to a waiting ambulance.
He was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital to be checked.
